Since 1996, Shelton Martial Arts, located at 1202 Annapolis Rd, Odenton, MD, has been providing instruction in the traditional martial art of, Tang Soo Do under the direction of Master Larry E. Shelton (6th Dan).

Su Young Kim, performing Yuk Ro Cho Dan—Gateway Form during Grand Championship competition at the Asia Tang Soo Do Open Martial Arts Championships Oct. 15.
Shelton Martial Arts, 1202 Annapolis Road in Odenton, competed in the Asia Tang Soo Do Open Martial Arts Championships on Oct. 15 at Belle Vernon, Pa.
The nine competitors earned 31 trophies and medals. The group brought home 19 first place, six second place, four third place medals, and 2 Grand Championship trophies.
Competitors had the opportunity to compete in four different events, forms, weapons, sparring and breaking. In forms and weapons competition, competitors display their skills by performing a pattern of preset movements that simulated various fight scenarios against opponents. Judging is based on power, execution of movement, fluidity and spirit.
In the breaking competition, competitors are judged on complexity of the break, transition, power and speed. While in the sparring competition competitors are scored on the number of points they tally against another opponent within a two-minute time limit. The first competitor to score three points with a kick or a punch within two minutes is declared the winner.
Fifth Degree Black Belt Master Samuel Slater led things off in the Master's Division with a first place win in forms. Michael King, 3rd Dan, earned a third place in forms, first in weapons and a first in breaking. Dr. Dwayne Everett, 2nd Dan, earned a second place in sparring and second place in breaking.
Joelle Everett, 1st Dan, took first place in forms and weapons, earning her the right to compete for the Grand Champions' trophy in both events.
She won the Grand Champion in weapons. Joelle also placed second in sparring.
Su Young Kim, 1st Dan, won first place in forms and sparring, earning her the right to compete for the Grand Championship in those events. Su won the Grand Championship in forms.
Young Kim, 1st Dan, won a first place in sparring, earning him the right to compete for the Grand Champion, his efforts netted him a runner-up position. Young also won second place in forms. Red Belt Dominique Freeman earned a first place in forms, sparring and weapons and a third place in breaking.
Red Belt Marquis Jackson earned first place in forms and sparring, as well as third place in weapons and breaking. Logan Krashnak, a Red Belt, placed first in forms, weapons and breaking, and second place in sparring.
Green Belt Isabel Overby in her first tournament earned first places in forms and breaking. Ashley Dyjack, Orange Belt, earned a first place in weapons and a second place in forms.
